ALDI supermarkets across Berkshire helped give over 82,000 meals to charities on Christmas Eve.

The Aldi Supermarkets donated a total of 82,368 meals to 52 charities on Christmas Eve after stores closed on Monday, December 24.

Aldi stores in Berkshire partnered up with 500 other supermarkets across the UK, local charities and food banks to donate any unsold fresh food.

Fritz Walleczek, Managing Director of Corporate Responsibility, said: “By donating fresh food such as bread, fruit and vegetables and meat we’ve been able to support charities in providing warm and healthy festive meals this Christmas season.”

The initiative was part of Aldi’s existing food donations partnerships, they already work directly with FareShare and Company Shop.

Fritz added: “The feedback has been overwhelming, and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to go above and beyond with our donations this year and reach so many people in and across the South East.”

Around 798,744 meals were donated across the country and more than 500 UK charities benefitted from the unsold food.
