Reading City gave their director of football, Andy Findlay, a welcome wedding present - despite having the Best man sent off.

While Andy was marrying Kerry Mann on Saturday, City were winning 3-0 at Fairford, ending a run of six Hellenic League games without a point.

They did it the hard way, playing with 10 men from the 37th minute after Austin Best had been red carded for two bookable offences.

City went on to produce a battling performance to give Simon Johnson his first win since taking over as first-team manager from Rob Creech, the best man at Andy's wedding.

They took a 63rd-minute lead when Fairford's Troy Weaven headed the ball into his own net.

Substitute Ousman Darboe doubled the lead from the penalty spot after 79 minutes with Rory Merrick adding a third just before the final whistle.

Skipper Adam Cashin-Murray commented: "It was good to get back to winning ways. Everyone did a shift."

City keeper Matt Carr made a number of decent saves, while Rhys York was named their man of the match thanks to his hard-working display.

Reading move up to 14th in the table ahead of their match with sixth-placed Bishops Cleeve at Rivermoor Stadium this Saturday.

On the same day, Woodley United return to Hellenic Division 1 East action at Milton United.

AFC Aldermaston's Reading Senior Cup tie against Cookham Dean was postponed last weekend and their next scheduled fixture is home to leaders Burnham on January 5.
