A UNIQUE charity event saw people throwing food and goods in their shopping trolley to raise money for a very worthy cause.

Customers at Sainsbury's in Winnersh purchased a £2 raffle ticket to be in with the chance of dashing through the isles in under three minutes to win their shopping cart.

The festive trolley dash event raised £818 for local charities across Wokingham.

Jason Prout from Winnersh was the lucky winner who bagged himself £128.79 worth of goodies to help with his Christmas food shop.

Organised by the Wokingham Lions Club, the festive trolley dash, took place at 9am on Sunday, December 9 and the winning raffle ticket was drawn on December 2.

Patrick Allen, Lions member said: "It was a very successful first time for the event, and it was quite fun watching the winner literally throwing goods into the trolley.

"It was a good thing he didn't choose any eggs."

Customers were only allowed to have up to £300 worth of stuff, not including clothing, electricals, alcohol or tobacco products and were given 5 minutes before hand to plan their route around the store.

The organiser of the event also wanted to thank the public for buying a raffle ticket as well as Barry Relf, assistant store manager and Kim Broadhurst, Sainsbury's public relations liaison officer for their help in the event.
