PUPILS from St Crispin’s School have been learning some important life lessons on their recent trip to Kenya.

The year 12 and 13 students from St Crispin's School in Wokingham who attended the three-week long trip learned about teamwork, living off less money and gaining their independence.

The students were stripped of their phones and forced to interact with each other, playing several card games.

Daisy Mason a year 12 student who went on the trip said: “the trek really put things into perspective as we were forced to push past obstacles such as altitude sickness, fatigue and the inconsistent temperature.

“We were all surprised about how connected we became with the people we met and people we were surrounded by from the start of the trip.“

The trip presented several activities and challenges including a boat trip on Lake Naivasha, climbing Mt Kenya and visiting the Keumbu Rehema Children’s Home.

Daisy added: “our next stop was the orphanage where Meir, the girl the school sponsors, lives when she’s not boarding.

“We got to meet her and all her brothers and sisters as well as the overly generous Pastor Robert and his wife who run the orphanage.

“During this time, we played games with them and taught at their school, which gave us a deep and personal insight to their way of life.”

At the end of the trip the students also got to spend a few days on a Safari.
