A THOUGHTFUL couple are busy lighting up their neighbourhood with a Christmas display in the hope to raise money for a very worthy cause.

George and Brenda Howe from North Ascot have created a spectacular display in their garden to attract visitors to look at the display and donate money.

The Howes have collected funds for local charities for around 10 years and the event raises between £5,000 to £6,000 each year.

George said: "I started doing this for my Grandchildren and my neighbour suggested to raise donations for charities.

"It's always nice to see people smiling. As long as I have got my health and can move about I plan to carry on doing displays."

Visitors have come to see their garden filled with illuminated reindeer for over 10 years at their home in Newlands, Long Hill Road in Chavey Down.

Sandra, community fundraiser at Thames Hospice said: "We are delighted that George and Brenda have chosen to support Thames Hospice again with their wonderful festive light display. All the funds raised will go directly to supporting our patients and their families this Christmas and beyond.

"We would like to thank George and Brenda and and everyone in the community who have made a donation."

Each year, the pair have managed to raise over £5,000 for charities and this time they have chosen Thames Hospice, a charity close to their heart which they donated to in 2012.

The couple encourage people to visit their festive display and give a small donation as a gesture of good will this Christmas.
