MORRIS dancers who were moved by the plight of rough sleepers have donated £564 to charity.

Hurst Morris People presented the funds to The Ark Project, in a bid to help combat homelessness in Berkshire.

Their donation will help get the charity's double-decker bus back on the road, providing temporary beds for people in need.

Siana Longsmith, trustee secretary for The Ark, said: “Our bus is off the road at the moment for repair and maintenance.

“The money will help get it out again before it gets really cold for outside sleepers."

Funds were gathered through a range of activities, including a barn dance and maypole dancing day.

Karen Ricketts, a member of the dance group, added: "We were pleased to help this charity with its valuable work. We are now choosing our charity for the coming year.”
