SCHOOL leaders are keen to highlight a wave of improvements that have been made following criticism from the education watchdog.

Harmans Water Primary School in Bracknell was rated as 'Requires Improvement' by Ofsted in July and staff worked quickly to act on the advice of inspectors.

Following the arrival of Alison Wyld as head teacher in April 2016, the school now appears to be moving in the right direction.

Inspectors previously said: "You [Mrs Wyld] have wasted no time in making important changes to the school. You are determined to secure the best possible outcomes for pupils.

"You have identified the right priorities and devised suitable and ambitious improvement plans to tackle all of the areas for improvement identified at the last inspection."

Despite the overall negative rating, Harmans Water was rated 'Good' in several areas, including effectiveness of leadership, personal development, behaviour and welfare, as well as early years provision.

However, inspectors noted that the quality of teaching was inconsistent and this resulted in pupils not achieving high enough standards.

The latest update from Ofsted suggested the school was working hard to address the key areas of concern, much to the relief of the leadership team.

Mrs Wyld said: “The school’s improvement journey has certainly presented challenges along the way but it is due to the hard work and commitment of all staff that we are now in a position to thrive and it is extremely pleasing that Ofsted have acknowledged this progress.

"As a school, we are determined to improve outcomes for all of our children because they are a real credit to the school and deserve every opportunity to flourish.”

In the latest Ofsted report, inspectors remained positive about the possibility of further improvements, highlighting the leadership of Mrs Wyld.

The report added: "The head teacher is highly respected by staff, parents and carers, governors and the local authority. Her ambition, commitment and decisive actions are improving the school.

"Leaders have had a significant positive impact on many areas of school life. Pupils’ behaviour is now good. Harmans Water is now a calm and purposeful place to learn."
