THE council’s social care provider's turnover has increased by more than 250% in the last year.

Council-owned Optalis was established to provide a financial return for the authority and after a social care merger with Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) turnover has risen to more than £40 million.

A report read: “To date a reduction of costs amounting to over £1m per annum costs have been realised.

“Its (Optalis) key objectives were to provide safe and good quality Adult Social Care Services commissioned by the Council at a reduced cost and to provide a financial return to the Council.”

Optalis reported a £34,000 profit for the four months leading up to July 2018.

This will be split between both Wokingham Borough Council (WBC) and RBWM.

It was reported last month that the two authorities will share a Director of Adult's Services to look over care provisions across the boroughs.

Angela Morris is set to take on the newly-created role after she left her position as Operations Director at Optalis.

The newly announced figures come as part of the shareholder’s report, which gives updates on companies the council has a stake in.

Councillors will hear about the progress of the companies the council has a stake in at a meeting of the executive on Thursday, 27 September.
