A PAVILION came crashing down last week thanks to a celebrity resident - but don't worry, it was meant to happen.

Legendary actor and director Brian Blessed helped to 'demolish' to Field of Remembrance pavilion in Windlesham earlier this month by using his almighty voice to bellow at the bricks.

The Windlesham resident lent his vocal talents to the mock destruction of the derelict pavilion on Sunday, August 5 to make way for a new, purpose-built building which can accommodate the growing village.

Tony Sheridan, a member and trustee of the Windlesham Field of Remembrance Committee said: "Our local Windlesham celebrity, war veteran and all-round adventurer Mr Brian Blessed was master of ceremonies at the mock demolition of our near derelict pavilion.

"We had the pleasure of listening to his memories of his time spent with the RAF, participating in numerous parachute jumps and flying in the infamous Spitfire Aircraft.

"He spoke about the Field being a permanent reminder of the great sacrifice that our troops had endured throughout the first and second world wars.

"With the help of the spectators, he started a countdown before the old building spewed out explosive dust and main door crashing to the ground assisted by very loud sound effects."
