A FAMILY made a lucky escape when the roof of their home caught fire in Sandhurst.

Crews from across the region were sent to tackle the blaze at the property in Oaktree Way shortly after 7pm on Sunday, August 5.

Appliances from Caversham Road, Dee Road and Bracknell fire stations were all despatched to the scene alongside an aerial ladder platform from Whitley Wood.

Crews from Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Surrey Fire and Rescue Services were also sent to the scene.

Two firefighters in breathing apparatus used a hose reel and two jets to extinguish the fire, which took around three hours to bring under control.

Eyewitnesses said they saw everybody escape from the house unharmed.
