A WAR veteran who dedicated his final years to charity has been nominated for a prestigious volunteer award.

Paul Nicholson sadly passed away in July 2017 following a long and hard fought battle with cancer.

His selfless work over the four years that he was a volunteer for the Brain Tumour Charity has been recognised by not only the charity itself, but the many people who benefited from his help.

The Celebrating You awards recognise individuals from the brain tumour community who have lead the way in support, awareness and vital research.

The hundreds of nominees for the award are whittled down to only three and on April 19 the winner will be announced.

Speaking about how proud she is of the work her husband did, Jackie Nicholson said: “I was really so proud to hear that after everything Paul gave to the charity he was nominated for this award.

“He was so dedicated to the Brain Tumour Charity and he loved going there and helping out in whatever way he could.

Mr Nicholson was described by the charity as ‘the glue that held everything together’ and would spend his time volunteering at events, packing merchandise and even ran the London Marathon where he raised more than £2,500.

Mrs Nicholson, added: “He used to travel to Farnborough where the charity was a few times a week to volunteer and when he became to sick to travel alone, a friend would pick him up and take him.

“He just never gave up and from the day that he started working there, I could see that it made him happy.

“Regardless of whether he wins the award or not, I am still so proud of him and it is lovely to see how appreciative everyone is of him work.”
