MORE THAN 150 school children will make history when they officially open the Lexicon.

At 10am on September 7 the long awaited town centre development will be unveiled.

Pupils from across the town will countdown to the opening which will be marked with a fanfare of green, gold and silver streamers and leaf shaped confetti, cascading across The Lexicon’s walkways and squares.

Following this visual extravaganza, The Lexicon will spring to life, with retailers and restaurants opening their doors for the very first time.

The weekend long entertainment will commence across the town centre.

A series of interactive screens, located throughout The Lexicon, will attempt to emulate the forest surrounding Bracknell and a host of artists, musicians and entertainers will be wandering the walkways, avenues and squares.

Simon Russian, development manager for Legal & General on behalf of Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, says: “The Lexicon is a town for the future, and we wanted to make the local future, the children, the focus of the launch. We hope that everyone will join us over the weekend to embrace the new town centre as something we can all be proud of.”

Local artist, Kerry Lemon, has been commissioned to create a series of bespoke nature inspired art to reflect the amazing array of green spaces, natural habitats, flora and fauna that surround the town centre.

Nature inspired art interventions can be discovered throughout The Lexicon, celebrating the borough’s fantastic forests, flora and fauna.

Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration said: “I’m immensely proud of our new town centre and everyone who has worked relentlessly since the start of the regeneration project to bring this vision to life.

"The wait is almost over and it’s only fitting that the opening of The Lexicon is a chance for everyone, whether living, working or visiting on the day, to come together and celebrate the town centre being given back to Bracknell.

“I, for one, can’t wait to be there watching our local children leading the celebrations. I look forward to seeing everyone on September 7 2017.”
