THE MAYOR of Bracknell delivered a heartfelt speech about a career service that helped lift him out of unemployment.
In the aftermath of the financial crisis Clive Harrison found himself suddenly out of work and unsure of what to do.
"In 2010 I was made unemployed. I was working for a small company at the time," explained the Conservative politician.
"I had 37 interviews before I got back into work. I was unemployed for five months."
Councillor Harrison, who was elected to the town council in 2011 and made mayor earlier this year, decided to visit the jobs centre on Skimped Hill Lane.
"They suggested Springboard," the Mayor continued.
"They gave me advice for interview technique and motivational advice preparing yourself for interviews. I found it very useful."
On July 7 Cllr Harrison returned to Spring Board, six years after they helped him find employment at an insurer's firm in Henley.
There he addressed employees and spoke about his journey back to the top.
Springboard meets most Fridays at 1.30pm at the Open Learning Centre on Rectory Lane in Bracknell. It is free of charge. Go to www.careersspringboardbracknell.org.uk for more details.
