A FAMILIAR face is leaving Binfield at the end of March after 33 years selling property in the village.

Gerry Burke, and his wife Brenda, both 68, are retiring after selling their family business to local estate agent David Cliff.

Wife Brenda said the couple, are looking forward to relaxing and enjoying their well-earned retirement.

"We're both ready to retire now after all these years in the business and are looking forward to relaxing now," Brenda said.

"We're going to enjoy our well-earned rest. We're going to go on holiday and we're thinking of moving house.

"It was a fairly easy decision to make as we both felt the time was right to sell. Gerry has been an estate agent since 1972.

"We didn't have a retirement date in mind but David made a good offer and we were happy to sell to him.

"The industry has changed massively over the years, especially since the dawn of the Internet but we've still kept the copy of the Bracknell News from when we opened all those years ago."

Gerry started working in the area in 1976 for Pennicott and Company at a time when there were only two estate agents in Bracknell, Pennicotts and Gale and Power.

In December 1984 he started off in Binfield Village as Burke & Spackman and later changed the name to Gerry Burke.

He is a popular and highly respected figure in Binfield, with the community wishing him a long and happy retirement.
