LIBRARIES across Bracknell Forest threatened by government funding cuts will be one step closer to knowing their fate when a public consultation comes to an end.

Four engagement events will be held across the borough this June in addition to an online survey and paper questionnaires.

The events will give residents the chance to share their thoughts on how to adapt the library service to meet the financial challenges whilst still providing a good service.

Cllr Iain McCracken, executive member for culture, corporate services and public protection said: "It is important we provide the best library service we can for our residents.

"We have arranged these four public meetings across the borough to give as many people as possible the opportunity to attend.

"The council has been very open about the fact it has tough financial challenges ahead and we can not afford to continue as we are, however, we recognise the importance of the library service to many residents, so we need to be smarter in the way we provide this service and consider new ways of thinking and fresh ideas.

"I would urge everyone who can, to attend one of the meetings to share your ideas about what we can do differently so we can understand the priorities of the local community."

An online questionnaire is available at www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk/librariesreview and paper copies can be collected form libraries and Bracknell Forest Council reception points.

A dedicated email address has been set up for questions, comments and suggestions via library.review@bracknell-forest.gov.uk or use comment cards available at the libraries.

Further consultations will be held in the autumn.

The meetings will be held at:

  • Sandhurst Community Hall, June 7, 8pm – 10pm
  • The Parks Community Centre, June 10, 1pm – 3pm
  • Great Hollands Primary School, June 13, 7.30pm - 9.30pm
