Liam Redmond, from Jennett’s Park, spent nearly five months building a life-size replica of a Dalek, one of the Doctor’s arch enemies, after just deciding one day he fancied setting himself the task of completing it.

The Dalek, which has been constructed out of fibreglass, plastic and wood, features fully-functioning LED lights and a dock where users can play music out of it or can load it with phrases to allow the model to ‘speak’.

The 42-year-old, who says his favourite Doctor Who actor is Tom Baker, has said every penny of the painstaking £600 project was worth it.

He said: “I have been a big fan of Doctor Who since I was a kid and building a Dalek has been one of my life ambitions. It has been something I’ve always wanted to do and I really proud of myself that I stuck with it and completed it.” Mr Redmond hopes to hire out the Dalek for corporate events and has his sights set on building more famous faces from the TV series, such as the Doctor’s sidekick K9.

He added: “I am really chuffed with myself and my 12-year-old son Lucas and nine-year-old daughter Pippa love playing with it. It is quite an achievement.”
