A HAZEL that grew out of a seed from one of the Queen's estates was among 100 trees planted as part of a scheme to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

Warfield Environment Group (WEG) was given the trees by the Woodland Trust as part of its Jubilee Woods initiative to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne.

Sheila Collings, vice-chairwoman of WEG, said: "The trees will be nice to look at and hopefully as they grow they will become a refuge for wildlife." A dozen group members and volunteers planted the trees along the boundary fence of Priory Fields in Newell Green, Warfield, on Sunday, February 26.
