THIS is the first image of how Bracknell's new HealthSpace might look.

If planning permission is granted by Bracknell Forest Council in the spring, developer Ashley House hopes to get the centre open by the end of 2012, ready for it to offer a wide range of health services.

Sally Kemp, chairwoman NHS Berkshire East, the body that commissions healthcare in the area, said: "2011 promises to be a good year for health services in Bracknell with the HealthSpace taking shape and the Royal Berkshire Bracknell clinic opening." The £20million HealthSpace plans to offer services including GP and dental appointments, diagnostics, outpatients, x-ray, physiotherapy, podiatry, mental health and sexual healthcare.

"It would also house an urgent care centre, an alternative to A&E for minor injuries and ailments such as sprains, stings and fevers.

The HealthSpace would be built on the site of the existing Skimped Hill Health Centre in Skimped Hill but NHS Berkshire East says that all services currently provided from the site would continue during construction. The Bracknell Clinic is being built in Brants Bridge by the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and will offer chemotherapy, radiotherapy and dialysis. It is due to open in June.
