UNSUNG heroes have been honoured for their contribution to village life.

Binfield Parish Council presented its annual Parish People's Awards to some of the great and good of the community at a parish meeting on Thursday, March 25.

Cllr Amanda McLean, chairwoman of the council, said: "There are a lot of people who work in this community to make it as special as it is. Thank you to everyone who does what they do to make this a great place to live.

"We always find it really hard to judge and this one was one of the hardest yet. Every recipient is absolutely deserving." An award was given to Jean Bunce for enriching the lives of many by helping people with their shopping and prescriptions and organising day trips.

Annie Dale was honoured for working with the Brownies, church youth groups and at Binfield Primary School as a learning support assistant, fundraiser and governor.

Margaret Foster was also recognised for her work at the school as part of 30 years' of serving the community, including 10 years as chairwoman of Binfield Village Protection Society.

An award was given to Jill Hanson, who is retiring from the school this year, after inspiring countless pupils with a love of literature.

She said: "A piece of my heart will always be with the school. I have had the most wonderful children and parents so I regard this as something very special, but for the children and parents as well." Postman Alan Seabrook was given his award for his thoughtful and community-spirited work in the village.

A joint business award was presented to Vince and Ann Traynor, who run V&A Traynor Fine Arts in Victoria Place off Terrace Road North in the village, for their support of local artists, societies and charities.
