THE dream of Sebastian Gates has come true after planners granted approval for a holiday home for sick children.

Councillors at Basingstoke and Deane Council unanimously agreed for a home to be built in Hampshire, off the A30 at a meeting on Wednesday.

It will provide a haven for families with children with life limiting illnesses as was the dream for Sebastian, from Ascot, before he died of cancer in 2003.

His mother, Jane Gates, who won a Pride of Bracknell Award for her efforts with the charity set up in Sebastian's name, has been working for years to get funding for the house and plans approved.

During the meeting, she said: "This would be a place for families and children to escape the gruelling treatment. We know from personal experience. My own family lived through such a nightmare during our sons battle with cancer."
