Aamina Zafar tests out the latest attraction for children this summer.

Children learn through play. That is what any good teacher worth their salt will tell you. So, if you're looking for a family day out to educate your little ones about science through fun activities, then head to The Look Out Discovery Centre in Bracknell.

Best of all, it’s running The Superhero Science Show until September to inform youngsters about super strengths such as invisibility, and mind reading. I took my four-year-old son Ibrahim to see what all the fuss was about and I can report back and announce it was a day filled with fun, and endless giggles. We started the day with the show which is jam packed with science experiments and audience participation.

Little ones are encouraged to stand up and take part in many activities including a tug of war game to learn about gravity and friction. And even grown-ups are encouraged to sit on a seat of nails to learn about force and pressure.

The shows are just one of the draws to The Look Out Discovery Centre.

There are five different sections aimed at teaching youngsters about science as they play and explore. The Forces and Movement Zone allows children to launch a hydrogen rocket and send a huge hot air balloon skyward. My son Ibrahim happily played with a world-shaped ball suspended mid-air by the Bernoulli blower. Infact, any child who walked past this experiment could not help but join in with a huge look of wonder on their face.

The Body and Perception Zone is a great section to challenge your body and brain. Families can test their reaction speed on Batak, or even solve the jigsaw of the human body. Luckily, the body parts are all named to help you place everything in the correct place.

Visitors can also have fun inside the Light and Colour Zone. Everyone will love playing with the Optimusic which encourages them to step on the colour beams as fast as they can. I also enjoyed playing a tune with colour laser beams, which played different sounds depending on what colour you step on. This is great for any budding music producers.

Tots can play with boats inside the Woodland and Water Zone. You are first greeted by colony of busy leaf-cutter ants and it is fascinating watching them at work. And then as you go inside the zone there are plenty of water related activities including making a vortex inside waters tubes.

Don’t worry if your little one gets soaked from all the splashing as there are special Dyson hand dryers dotted along the walls to ensure they don’t stay wet for long.

The best section is the Build It! Zone which is a soft play area with a difference. Here, youngsters can don high visibility jackets and hard hats and become a member of a construction crew. Tots will keep themselves occupied by using the rubble chute, wheelbarrows, and driving the dumper trucks filled with bricks to build a house, a shop or anything else their imagination can come up with.
