Working from home could be recommended from tomorrow as case numbers in Berkshire near the 139,000 mark since the beginning of the pandemic - with more than 780 diagnosed on Tuesday.

Politics Home says two Whitehall sources have told them that extra Covid restrictions are set to be announced "as early as today [Wednesday]" in response to the rising R-rate.

Reporter Noa Hoffman said on Twitter those extra measures could include a recommendation for working from home announced today [Thursday].

This is the situation in Berkshire according to the latest figures.

How many people have tested positive for Covid?

On Tuesday, December 7, 780 people in Berkshire reported a positive Covid-19 test.

That works out as 147 in Reading, 121 in West Berkshire, 157 in Wokingham, 127 in Windsor and Maidenhead, 94 in Bracknell Forest and 134 in Slough.

That takes the total cases in Berkshire since the beginning of the pandemic to 138,885. The area that has seen most cases is Slough, with 27,605 up until December 6.

Reading has reported 25,860, Wokingham 24,392, West Berkshire 20,449, Windsor and Maidenhead 22,591 and Bracknell Forest has reported 17,988.

The currently weekly rate per 100,000 population in Berkshire is 596.9.

How many people have died?

According to government figures, one person in Berkshire died in the week November 20 to 26, the latest figures available.

The week before, November 13 to 19, there were six reported deaths in Berkshire.

In total, up until November 26, 1,931 people have sadly passed away where Covid-19 was involved.

Most of these deaths happened in hospital – 1,325. A total of 435 people died in a care home, while 121 died at home and 36 in a hospice. There are six deaths that do not fit into these categories and are classed as ‘other’.

How many people have been vaccinated against Covid-19?

Figures released by the NHS every week break down the number of vaccinations by Integrated Care System (ICS). In our area, that is the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire ICS (which includes West Berkshire, Reading and Wokingham) and Frimley Health and Care ICS (which covers the Royal Borough, Slough and Bracknell as well as parts of Hampshire and Surrey).

The Bucks, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West ICS has administered 3,108,681 doses so far, while Frimley Health and Care ICS has given 1,298,188 doses. This includes first, second and booster or third doses.
