SELLES REACTION 'We need to continue working' Reading boss on Barnsley defeat and late substitutions

I think we started on top and scored first. We had chances, especially the header with Tyler Bindon, to score the second one. The penalty is unfortunate to make it 1-1. In the second half we had a few mistakes, especially in the second goal which we should defend better. In the moment that we tried to make substitutions and go for the game, a throw-in should keep us in control, but we let it go and they make it 3-1. We need to continue working in those moments. We are still showing that we are competitive against any opponent, but we need to do it over 100 minutes.

Reading surrender early lead to lose against play-off chasing Barnsley

Reading surrendered a lead again to lose 3-1 at home to play-off chasing Barnsley to end a two-match winning streak. Harvey Knibbs had given the Royals the lead within four minutes in an end-to-end encounter. Herbie Kane levelled before the break from the penalty spot before Devante Cole and Max Watters scored twice in the final 10 minutes to keep chase with the play-off pack.

INJURY UPDATES McIntyre, Dorsett and Mbengue: Reading injury latest ahead of Barnsley clash

Reading will be without Tom McIntyre and Jeriel Dorsett for tomorrow's clash with Barnsley due to injury, but defender Amadou Mbengue should be in contention despite being substituted against Charlton Athletic on Wednesday. Ruben Selles has almost a full squad at his disposal for the visit of the Tykes, who look to edge nearer to the play-offs. Take a look at the Spaniard's injury update below, after speaking to the media following Wednesday's EFL Trophy win.

'It is frightful and disgraceful' Legendary Reading figure on current plight of club

Legendary former Reading owner Sir John Madejski described the current off-field mess at the club as 'frightful and disgraceful.' Owner Dai Yongge chose only to pay the playing staff on time last week in a bid to avoid more points deductions, while the non-playing staff received only a portion of their wages on time and had to wait four days for the rest of their pay. They have now all been paid in full, but concerns remain over how the club will pay HMRC and wages for December as payday comes ever closer.

Reading EFL Trophy win witnessed by lowest competitive crowd of 21st century

Reading beat Charlton Athletic on penalties to progress into the last 16 of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, but a 24-year-low crowd were there to witness it. A competition predominantly for lower league sides, the decision to include Category One academy sides has seen mass protests from many fanbases. For instance, Carlisle United saw their lowest-ever crowd last month as only 716 watched them beat Harrogate in the EFL Trophy, while only 1,809 braved the cold for the win over the Addicks, including 249 from South-East London.

'We are excited to have him' Reading striker joins National League side on loan

Reading striker Jahmari Clarke has joined National League Boreham Wood on loan until the end of January. Still only 20, the striker has made 14 appearances for the club and famously came off the bench to bag a brace on debut to beat Birmingham City in 2021. Not featuring for Reading in over 16 months, the Jamaica Under-20 international spent some time on loan last season with Forest Green Rovers and Woking.
