John Edward Weekes

Published on 23/03/2022

WEEKES John Edward Passed away peacefully at his care home on the 7th March 2022, having enjoyed his 89th birthday earlier this year. His working career started in engineering, but outside of work, he was able to turn his hand to most things, making handmade items of furniture and beautiful dolls houses for his granddaughters. From a young age he took part in endurance running and cycling and later on in life continued winning trophies for the local Bowls Club. He also revisited ballroom dancing in his 70s and 80s, where enterprisingly as a teenager in Croydon, along with the rest of his cycling team, took lessons in an effort to find girlfriends. He was a man who always enjoyed a pie and a pint, followed by two scoops of vanilla ice-cream and a good laugh. In the last couple of years, he bravely battled serious health challenges, surviving many setbacks and coming out smiling. He finally relented and last week moved on to join his past friends and carry on the dancing. He is survived by his two daughters Caroline and Helen and their families. -------------------------------- A short celebration of his life will be held at Easthampstead Park Crematorium, Braccan Chapel on Wednesday 30th March at 1.30 p.m. Family flowers only please, but donations, if so desired, can be made to Jonathan Terry Funeral Directors, donations will be divided for the charities The Mens Shed and the Masonic Charitable Foundation. c/o Jonathan Terry Independent Funeral Directors 101 Peartree Avenue, Bitterne, Southampton SO19 7JJ Tel. 023 8043 4444
