Olive Pharo

Published on 06/03/2019

Olive Pharo Much loved former Crowthorne shopkeeper Olive Pharo has died aged 88. Olive, who lived on Dukes Ride for almost 40 years, passed away peacefully at Frimley Park hospital in the early hours of Monday February 18th. She had suffered from smoking-related health problems for some time. A familiar face in the Crowthorne area, Olive was best known for running the Candy Box sweet shop during the late seventies and early eighties alongside her beloved husband George, who tragically died in 1986. Olive never remarried and instead devoted herself to her family. For the last three decades, however, she was a popular figure - taking a daily walk down the High Street to shop, support the many charity shops and chat to her fellow residents. Her son Chris said:" Mum was a huge character who was part of the fabric of Crowthorne society. She always had a smile and a joke for her fellow locals and while she will be forever missed by her family, I think many others will shed a tear at her passing." Olive's funeral is due to take place at Easthampstead Park Crematorium on Monday, March 11 at 2.30pm. The family ask donations to be made to Dementia UK, instead of flowers. She is survived by her daughter Carole, sons Martin and Chris, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
