GIG TIME: The Harlots

Reading band Adam & Elvis launch their new ep at The Sun Inn on Friday, February 15, with support from London-based band The Harlots.

The Guide caught up Harlots frontman Sherwin Claridge to find about more about the band, whose summery indie-pop single, Be Mine, was released from their self-titled EP in January last year.

"It's been just over a year we've been together. I was born in the Philippines, Enrique [lead guitar] is from Spain, Adam [drums] is from Hungary and Florent [bass] is French, so it's a cultural melting pot. That's why London is great," explained Sherwin.

Sherwin was speaking to The Guide from the studio, where the band are recording their next single, so we were keen to find out what was influencing them in their endeavours.

"Our influences range from The Beatles, Oasis… Adam comes from a jazz background, of technical drumming. Florent and Enrique have input, but I'm the one that writes the songs and puts them on the table. It's us four lads trying to make a new sound - it's such an eclectic mix."

And what do the boys have planned for after their mini-tour (including a date at KOKO, London, on Friday, March 9)?

"I think what we aspire to is to really concentrate on the songs. We strive to write songs that really resonate with people, really have hooky melodies and big choruses. We are really energetic onstage, we have laugh. We just want to continue playing amazing venues, seeing what happens, see how big we can get."

The Harlots play The Sun Inn, Reading, on Friday, February 15, supporting Adam & Elvis, with The Rabies and Shoals, from 8pm. Entry is free.
