Happy New Year. 2013 on paper should be a great year for promoters. No Olympics, major football championships, Jubilee et al this year. Such events can really get in the way of punters coming out and watching music.
If you believe the chattering media classes, then this year the 'guitar' will be back in fashion. Has it really gone away? Maybe it's not in the charts so much, but just dig deeper - there is always a lot - a lot of good - 'guitar' music.
These days I do not have much time to debate or argue with London media types. London seriously bores me these days. Far too much happening in Reading and Berkshire.
Here at Club Velocity towers, lots of activity is already being planned - more details are coming over the coming weeks. On Friday, January 25, Screama Ballerina are back in Reading, after five long months.The Brighton-based band are in for a busy 2013. The four-piece are a must-see live band. They are an experience! The Dianas are the main support - they deal in ice cool indie fuzz-pop and you're right, none of them are called Diana.
The Ultimate End are playing their debut show on this bill and you do not want to miss out on this piece of Reading musical history, at Rising Sun Arts Centre, at 30 Silver Street Reading. Doors at 8pm £5 gets you in.
Our newest venue Queens Arms, at 24 Great Knollys Street, may be the best kept secret in Reading at present. That should change this year. It is what my mother would say 'a good old proper boozer' and their back room has the makings of being a firm fave with music lovers. It already feels like home. On Saturday, February 2, Violet Class headline. They are a proper band, for proper people. There is no bandwagon jumping here. Their latest 'celeb' fan is ex Reading FC legend Ady Williams. They are hitting the studio this month with Paul Tippler (Elasica/Chapterhouse/Idlewild) and 2013 is already looking like a great year for them. Support comes from Noise Trade, Terrics and The Cottonettes.
Doors 8pm and entry is £5.
