Panto time at Shinfield last week was an opportunity for the cast to don their tights and outlandish costumes in this very happy production (and that was just the fellows!). The storyline provided many opportunities for the audience to cheer the efforts of Robin Hood (Katie Cox), his Mother (Gordon Bird), Maid Marion (Laura Hartley) and the members of his gang Will Scarlett (Josh Lockwood), Friar Tuck (Ben Pugh) and Little John (Mark Read). In the interest of equality, the minstrel became Alana Dale (Becky Wilkinson) clearly singing all her lines! Prince John (Sam Pemberton), The Sheriff of Nottingham (Juliette Beahan) and their stupid guards (Jamie Hammonds and Sophie Taylor) provided opportunities for us to boo the baddies!

The large chorus was involved in many of the scenes and we witnessed some spirited dance routines devised by Lindsay Alexander. I was very impressed with the high class costumes worn by all members of the cast and the clever scenic and lighting designs that facilitated the many changes of location called for by the plot. Musical direction was in the safe hands of Mark Webb and the production was skilfully directed by John Potter, taking a break from his own professional company, Jam Pot Theatre.

The panto runs until Sunday. Tickets, times and prices at http://www.boardtreaders.tgis.co.uk/Index.html
