Following the final race of the day at Newbury Racecourse on Saturday we were given an excellent show by the veteran entertainer Tom Jones.

With calls of "We want Tom" a lone guitarist opened the proceedings to a raucous welcome for the man himself.

Dressed all in black with distinguished greying hair and beard he had lost none of his charisma, despite being 71. Accompanied by a band with keyboards, vocals, brass and guitars - acoustic and electric - his voice remains as powerful and moving as ever.

He introduced many of his greatest hits as well as some gospel numbers, sometimes with a bit of name-dropping - "This is one Elvis and I sang in his suite in Las Vegas", " I asked Jerry Lee Lewis about the recording of this one", and so on.

The crowd joined in many of the songs especially Delilah (with rather manic laughter at the appropriate point), and danced along.

As it had been Ladies Day at the course there were also a fair few pairs of knickers being thrown towards the stage. M and S must have done good business that day!

This was the final Party in the Paddock for 2011, and we look forward to seeing some more class acts next year, together with the racing.
