DARKLY comic and accomplished dance theatre comes to Newbury Corn Exchange tomorrow (Friday), with a double bill from Lost Dog's Place, It Needs Horses and Home For Broken Turns, following a down-at-heel circus duo. Co-founder Ben Duke told us more about the production.
"The piece is about families and ideas of home. It is about how home is a very strong concept and a place that we need to escape from and return to depending on where we are in our life.
"At the moment my favourite moment is when one of the characters stumbles across a version of their younger self travelling in the opposite direction along the same road."
He also explained the company's name: "Lost Dog's work has always been about combining theatre and dance and we were interested in words that were about a combination of two things that then formed their own thing - if that makes sense - and that new thing has an identity of its own that is not to do with the two combined forms. So we came up with the word mongrel. But mongrel has negative connotations as a word so we chose lost dog.
"We have had a great relationship with the Corn Exchange since performing Hungry Ghosts there many years ago. We have had great support from the venue and can't wait to come back. "
Lost Dog Place will bring their highly physical productions to Newbury Corn Exchange tomorrow (Friday). Tickets cost £14, with £12 concessions, from www.cornexchangenew.com or call 01635 582666
