BBC Introducing Stage, Sunday, August 28

It's something to get booked to play Reading Festival, but it is quite another to have it be your seventh ever gig. So it was no surprise to The Guide that Guernsey band Courage Have Courage still sounded slightly-shocked about their booking for the BBC Introducing Stage when we got them on the phone.

"We just could not believe it when we heard," said vocalist Luke. "We were over the moon. It is such a great opportunity to have a great endorsement from BBC Introducing. It is going to be biggest gig we have played - it has to be one of the biggest festivals in the UK, and one of the most famous in the world. It is massive, a

massive step up for us."

Hailing from around Guernsey and the Channel Islands, the five-piece got together while sharing a house in London during the summer of 2010 and were so focussed on writing songs that they only played their first live shows in March this year. They've still found time to self-release a mini-album and do a small tour, and were planning to take some time out to write more… until the call came about their dream booking.

"We were going to take a little break for a few months, but when Reading and Leeds came along we couldn't say no," Luke explained. "But after the shows we will be getting our new record written and recorded and then touring. We are quite a motivated band, we try to make sure we never have our heels on the ground."

So what can those who've never heard CHC expect from their debut Reading Festival gig?

Luke promised that the band will be giving it their all with their distinctive brand of upbeat crossover rock: "It will be totally different from hearing us on record. We play fun, energetic rock songs and we put on a really energetic performance. We put all of ourselves into our live shows - we do not just go through the motions or plan things too much.

"I'm assuming there will not be many or maybe any other bands playing BBC Introducing who are so new, so it's a good chance to see a band right at the start of their career."

So if you want to be able to say 'I was there first', head along to the BBC Introducing stage on festival Sunday.
