LYNDA Fairbrother, the founder of Pinewood Gymnastics Club, gave up her day job to pursue a lifelong passion for the sport, writes Shakila Barabhuiya.
Lynda, from Sandhurst, was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List for her services to gymnastics.
Remarkably, she is the second in her family to receive the prestigious award, 20 years after her daughter Nicola.
Nicola won silver in judo at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992 and was awarded the MBE in 1994.
Lynda was as surprised as anyone to be honoured by Her Majesty The Queen and said: “I didn’t think you could get two MBEs in one family. Everybody is delighted. I retired in March so it’s quite a nice thing to happen.” See Thursday's Bracknell News for a longer version of the story.
