With the weather set fair from Friday evening until Sunday, the finalists in all competitions battled it out at the end of what has been another highly successful campaign for the club.

In the Men’s Singles final, two of the best bowlers in the club took part and the championship went to Adie Chipper, who produced a superlative display of bowls.

He put on a magnificent display to seal the title with a 21-9 win against Clive Tarran, although the runner-up did achieve success in other competitions during the weekend.

In a classic nip and tuck Ladies’ final, Lillian Holliday eventually pulled away to secure the glory with a 21-9 triumph against a very good opponent in Vi Hales-Owen.

The winner of the Mens Singles Novices was Ron Swan, while Sandra Thompson grabbed the women’s equivalent.

In the 2 Wood County Singles, Tarran came out on top, while Tessa O’Connor was triumphant in the Women’s competition.

Colin Cleverly was crowned champion of the Mens Senior singles, while the Mixed Pairs category was snared by Jim Rudd and Sylvia Pearce.

The Mens Pairs event was won by Malcolm Giles and Stuart Slocombe, while Pearce and Elaine Herbert sealed victory in the Ladies contest.

The team of Gerald Deeves, Jill Thorne and Alan Taylor bagged the Mixed Triples competition, while John MacGregor, Alex Thomson and Keith Roberts took the glory in the Mens edition.

Thompson, Thorne and Sue Martin were the winners of the Ladies Triples, while Tarran gained a second success alongside John Scowen and Neil Jones in the Benevolent Triples.

The Ladies Club Fours was won by the team of Herbert, Thorne, Martin and Cyndy Price-Finnie Paul Melhuish was the champion in the Mens 3 Wood Handicap, while Trevor Gilmour bagged the spoils in the Mens 4 Wood Handicap.

The Ladies 4 Wood Handicap was won by Pearce, while Tarran also picked up victory in the Mixed Sevens and 2 Wood Yardstick to ease the disappointment of missing out in the showpiece Mens Singles event.

The club also defeated Reading 108-73 in a Mens friendly match on Friday.

The highest up rink was skipped by Tarran along with Rudd and Alan Jeynes. In singles action, Tarran, Sam Welsh, Slocombe and Bob Thompson were victorious, while Len Cooke and David Smith were narrowly defeated.

• Twyford Bowling Club also held its finals day recently, with Paul Hynes crowned as the Mens champion.

The winner of the Ladies Championship was Rebecca Arkell, while Rita Orde won the Novices competition and Allan Wrigley sealed victoy in the Mens Novices.

Tony Phillips won the Handicap Singles, and the team of Ann Pope and Ann Harris triumphed in the Ladies Pairs.

Pope also won the Ladies Two Wood.

The Husband and Wife competition was won by Gordon and Mary Wheeler, while Phil Rose and Mick Kenway won the Mens Pairs. Mike Self and Annette Stain won the Mixed Pairs, and Barry Carter won the Mens Two Wood.

Phil Rose, Jan Walker and Jean Bennet won the Mixed Triples.
