The GB team battled to an overtime win against the 2012 Paralympic silver medallists Australia to secure a top five finish for the first time ever.

Competing in her second World Championship, the 29-year-old put on fantastic performances throughout the tournament, starting in the pool stages where the GB Women’s team played their way to the quarter finals with wins over Brazil, Japan and China – only losing out to the eventual Champions Canada and runners-up Germany.

The team was then beaten by the USA at the last eight stage, but bounced back to beat France and then Australia in the 5th/6th playoff.

Speaking after the tournament, Louise - who scored 37 points for the team during the event - said: “I’m just really proud of the team and how its responded to the pressures of the tournament, especially coming through in the last game against the Australians.

“I’m really pleased that we’ve finished fifth - I think it gives us a lot of momentum and we can see from the short time we spent together at the University of Worcester Arena the progress that has been made already.

“I’m now looking forward to the next two years as we build towards the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.” The clash with Australia was particularly tight, as GB Women sealed an 18-16 lead at the end of the first quarter before working to a 35-28 advantage at half time.

However Australia hit back and by the end of the third quarter had closed the gap to just one point.

In the final stages of normal time Australian Amber Merritt tied the game on 64 points apiece, causing the game to enter overtime, but Louise - who scored 12 points in the match - helped her side to a 77-70 win.

Great Britain’s previous best performance in the world championships had been sixth place - achieved in both 2010 and 1994 - and head coach Miles Thompson admitted he was proud of his team’s historic performance.

He said: “It feels like the natural step in our progression - we needed a win like that to kick start this programme into the elite and that’s what we did.

“We had some exceptional performances out there individually, but you could also feel the team aspect of where we’re headed – it’s great.”
