Players from all over the South of England and Wales took part in the competition, with disabilities ranging from amputees to autism.

The competition was set up by local businessman Stan Bembenek, who is a CEO for the Disabled Golf Association and a member at Sand Martins Golf Club. Martin Bishop, Town Mayor for Wokingham, and Philip Mirfin, Deputy Mayor Councillor also attended for the day.

Warren Clark was the winner on the day with 41 stableford points, ahead of Martyn Smith and Keith Dolman with 36 and 34 respectively.

The award of straightest drive on the ninth hole went to Alan Moulpied and the nearest the pin winner on the 12th hole was fittingly, Bembenek.

Wokingham based National Events Co-ordinator Graeme Robertson said: “Disabled Golf Association are doing great work all around the country in making golf possible for people overcoming their disabilities and impairments.

“To be able to show the power of the human mind in overcoming adversity is amazing and I feel quite passionate about encouraging other disabled people to return to, or start playing golf, with all the therapeutic values that can bring.

“My thanks to Andrew Hall, Andrea Downer and all the team at Sand Martins Golf Club for what was a wonderful day.

“They really did go the extra mile to help us in every way possible.” The day was sponsored by Sand Martins owner, Andrew Hall.
