Golf EAST Berks Golf Club’s David Cowap was named as the new Berkshire golf captain at the AGM at Maidenhead Golf Club recently.

The Crowthorne-based player replaces John Meikle of Calcot Park Golf Club.

Cowap said: “I’m looking forward to a very enjoyable year, making friends and playing golf at some of the best courses in Berkshire.” The Berkshire Golf Captains was founded over 50 years ago, in 1959, with the object of providing golfing and social opportunities for current and past captains of affiliated Berkshire clubs.

Terry Jackson, from Maidenhead Golf Club, was elected as Cowap’s vice-captain for the next year.

Hockey BRACKNELL Hockey Club Ladies 1sts were held to a 1-1 draw by Maidenhead 3rds in their final game before the winter break.

After beating the Trysports Premier League leaders the previous week, Bracknell were hoping for another good performance.

They pressed forward early on, creating a number of chances and winning short corners without converting any.

Sam Hall, Libby Mound, Holly Bentley, Lucy Williams and Alison Eatwell stood strong commanding the defence and picked up any loose balls turning them into an instant attack. The goal eventually came from a well-worked short corner from girl-of-the-game Holly Bentley to make it 1-0 at half time.

However, Maidenhead slowly crept into the game in the second half and managed to squeeze the ball into Bracknell’s goal from a late short corner to level the scores.

Bracknell now have a month off before returning to action on January 11 against Henley.
