MARCUS Willis equalled the British record for winning the most number of titles in a single year after he picked up another doubles title with Lewis Burton last weekend.

Marcus Willis, left, with doubles partner Lewis Burton after their recent doubles win in Greece.

The Wokingham tennis ace claimed his sixth doubles trophy of the year with Burton after defeating Nikola Cacic (SRB) and Alexandros Jakupovic (GRE) 6-4, 7-6 (5) in the ITF Futures Greece F20 in Crete last week.

In what has been a ground-breaking 2013, Willis has now equalled Josh Goodall’s record of winning 11 titles in a single year, which included three singles and eight doubles titles.

Willis said: “I would like to thank my sponsor A1 Pharmaceuticals and a huge number of people who have supported me, including my parents, manager Gary Lewis and coaches Matt Smith, Chris Daw, Ricky Ingram and doubles partner Lewis Burton.”
