ASPIRING athletes underlined their potential at Bracknell & Wokingham Swimming Club's Winter Level Three Open meet last Saturday.

In a bid to achieve personal bests, county times and regional times, the children raced up and down the lanes, cheered on by parents and coaches.

Those standing by the side of the pool could see the results clearly on the club's new Aqualite outdoor screen for exact electronic timing.

And there were plenty of happy swimmers and parents as pbs were smashed and medals were won by kids as young as nine.

Heather Alexander, nine, from the Minnows squad, achieved her first county time for Under 10s, finishing the backstroke in a time of 43.83 seconds.

Ashley Owen, also nine, completed the butterfly in 50.7secs in her first competition while Charlotte Stephenson, 10, took nine seconds off her breaststroke pb.

It was a similar story for 12-year-old Keavy By, who took nine seconds off her 200 individual medley.

First-time butterfly swimmer Catherine Cooke, nine, finished in a time of 59.31secs.

In the Killer Whales squad, there were personal bests in the 50m backstrokes for Imogen Cooke (39.83), Millie Gregory (39.16), Emma Couchman (40.65) and 10-year-old Ellie Kirkham, who achieved a new county time of 39.16secs.

In the 200m breaststroke, Cooke finished in a time of three minutes, 26 seconds and 64 milliseconds while Rosie Jenkinson crossed in 3:34.31mins.

There were more personal bests to tumble in the 200 individual medley from Jade Campbell (2:56.44), Imogen Cooke (3:00.94), Couchman (3:02.56), Millie Gregory (3:11.20), Jenkinson (3:14.83) and Lily Hoban.

In the Devils squad, Elizabeth Lowrie, 14, achieved her first county time in the 100m backstroke in 1:16.31mins.

Isabel Legg, 12, repeated the feat in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 3:13.91mins and Holly Pither, 13, beat her pb in the 100m freestyle with 1:08.22mins.

Riley Thrower, 12, took five seconds off his 200 individual medley best and Luke Griffiths, 12, took three seconds off his pb to achieve a regional time.
