SOME of Liverpool and Manchester United’s finest players will reignite old rivalries at Wentworth in the Celebrity Pro-Am on the eve of the BMW PGA Championship, the first of eight Rolex Series events on the European Tour.

Idols from each club will meet again on the golf course as part of the traditional BMW PGA Championship curtain raiser on Wednesday, May 23.

Red Devils legends Paul Scholes and Peter Schmeichel, both part of the club’s legendary treble-winning 1999 side, are confirmed to play in the prestigious event which has fast become one of the highlights of the week, with unrivalled access to the professionals and star amateurs as they tackle the testing West Course.

With a total of 16 Premier League titles between them, these two serial winners will both return to the West Course, while leading the line for Liverpool will be Anfield hero Robbie Fowler.

The former England forward, who scored 183 goals in 369 appearances for the Reds, is a Wentworth regular who will be hopeful of transferring his golden touch from the six-yard box to the greens.

Other star strikers confirmed to play in this year’s Celebrity Pro-Am include Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer – the Premier League’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals – and Chelsea great Gianfranco Zola, who produced countless moments of magic in his seven years with the Blues.

Also set to tee to it up at Wentworth Club this summer is Vinnie Jones, the notorious midfield enforcer who had spells at Wimbledon, Leeds United, Sheffield United and Chelsea before forging a career as an actor.
