SOUTH Berkshire men are on the brink of MBB&O Division One promotion following a 9-2 drubbing of Henley 2nds, writes Richard Ashton.

Chris Fifield, Daniel Ray, Will Simpson and Sam Fox-Harvey all scored twice, the latter staying joint top of the divisional charts with a tally of 27.

Ben Dudley got the other goal for the hosts, with Jody Measures and Richard Woolfrey on target for Henley.

With Newbury & Thatcham 2nds drawing their final game of the season at OMT 2nds, South Berkshire know a draw at Sonning 2nds on Saturday will be enough to seal a top-two finish.

At the other end of the table, South Berkshire 2nds finished their season with a victory, but it was not enough to avoid relegation.

Mike Baylis and Rob Pace netted as they won 2-1 at West Hampstead 3rds, with Thibault Hidalgo the hosts’ goalscorer.

However, Sonning 2nds’ 3-2 home win against Ashford 2nds means South Berks finish the season second bottom.

In Division Three, South Berkshire 3rds’ promotion hopes took a potentially fatal blow as they lost 4-2 at West Hampstead 4ths. The result leaves them five points off the top two with only two games remaining.

Seventh-placed South Berkshire 4ths ended their Division Five campaign with a 3-3 draw at Oxford 5ths.

Division Seven basement boys South Berkshire 5ths enjoyed a rare victory as they won their bottom-of-the-table duel with West Hampstead 8ths 4-1, while South Berkshire Terriers beat Wallingford 4ths 2-0 in Division Eight West.

South Berkshire Ladies ended their Trysports Three Counties League Premier One campaign with a 2-1 home defeat to Oxford University 2nds.

The side are currently fourth in the table, though could be overtaken by Oxford 2nds if they win their two games in hand.

In Premier Two, already-relegated South Berkshire 2nds ended their season on a positive note with a hard-fought 2-0 victory at home to third-placed Newbury & Thatcham.

South Berkshire 3rds were beaten 2-1 at Thame 2nds in Division Three, while Division Four basement dwellers South Berkshire 4ths lost 3-0 at Newbury & Thatcham 3rds.
