WOKINGHAM’S Graeme Robertson led England’s disabled golfers to a convincing victory over Scotland in the annual Auld Enemies Cup.

Team England captain Robertson helped his team secure a 15.5-8.5 points win against their hosts at the Macdonald Cardrona course in Peebles recently.

The victory saw England reclaim the trophy from Scotland after three days of intense competition.

A delighted Robertson, who has been England’s captain for the past six years, said: “I am very proud of my team for their efforts and sportsmanship.

“I put together a team from our Order of Merit running throughout the year, that represents what the Disabled Golf Association is all about – different abilities, disabilities, ages and parts of the country joining together.

“We have ex-serving service members, amputees, some with Parkinson’s Disease and MS and other who are blind and stroke survivors.”

This year’s Auld Enemies Cup was the first in a series of pan-disabled Ryder Cup-style matches played across the world.

England took the early initiative by winning the opening day 4-2. They repeated the trick on day two and won the third day 7.5-4.5 points to claim an emphatic victory that put them 3-2 up in overall matches played.

England’s previous wins came at Slaley Hall (2011) and Kinross (2013), while Scotland triumphed at Breadsall Priory (2012) and The Shire in London (2014).

Robertson added: “Cardrona provided a great test of golf made for a matchplay event. We enjoyed the camaraderie and excitement.”

Scotland captain Alan Robertson added: “It was another great Auld Enemies Cup match The setting and the weather were perfect and some of the golf on show was incredible.

“Congratulations must go to Graeme and his team who I thought were on top form. Although disappointed in the result, Scotland will be determined to win the cup back in 2018.”

Robertson also thanked those who supported their DRIVE2DRIVE fundraising campaign as well as Team England sponsors Bellway Homes, FORE Business Network, and Dangerous Golf.
