WOKINGHAM Acorns finished their Thames Valley Ladies League Division One season with a 63-45 defeat at home to Caversham.

In the final match of the East Berkshire Men’s Floodlight League, Wokingham beat Maidenhead Town 149-127.

Wokingham A won the singles match but lost the pairs, triples and rinks, while Wokingham B reversed that score winning the singles, pairs and rinks and losing the triples.

Wokingham won the Paddy Keelty Cup 140-81 in their annual match against London Irish. Top triple for Wokingham was skipped by Clive Tarran along with Claude Linnell and Barry Woolley. They won their game 32-2.

Wokingham beat the touring Honiton BC 154-93 in a mixed friendly.

The top rink for Wokingham was skipped by David Smith and included Martin Brailey, Ken Marshall and Sylvia Pearce who won by 28-9.

The club won another mixed friendly 96-81 at Yateley, with Smith’s rink of David Fielding, Jill Thorne and Zara Sanders prevailing 24-10.

In a ladies’ friendly, Wokingham defeated Great Hollands 57-34.

Wokingham beat Woodley 85-68 in a men’s friendly, the most successful featuring skip Sam Welsh along with Colin Musto and Bob Boswell (24-14).

  •  GREAT Hollands Linnets won a close game against Reading Town 55-54 (7-3) on points victory in the Thames Valley Ladies League.

Sheila Lee skipped the only winning rink (20-14), while Jo Sanders’ drew 14-14 and Rita Littleford’s lost 26-21.

The Wrens played Island Bohemian, who could only raise two rinks, winning 53-30 (10-0). Sheila Ledbury’s rink won 31-12 and Sheila Stickland’s triumphed 22-18.

  •  BERKSHIRE Under 31 Ladies were edged out 28-24 by eventual winners Somerset in the Amy Rose Bowl.

It was the first time Berkshire had entered the event – which features two rinks – and they put in a fine performance to push the champions as close as they did.
