BETT Aubrey is the new Berkshire champion following a 21-9 success against Morgan Merryweather (Island Bohemian) at Thatcham BC on Saturday, writes Max Baker-Smith.

The home club member also took the honours in the two-wood singles with a dominant 19-3 thrashing of Judy Bacon, while Pat Fowkes (Caversham) won the Champion of Champion singles with a 21-7 win against Jennifer Bartlett (Hungerford).

The junior singles was won by the highly impressive Merryweather – who has a very bright future – after a comfortable 21-9 victory against Sophie Coston (Trentham).

Merryweather was not able to repeat her success in the pairs competition, as she and Catherine Wooldridge lost by a comfortable 24-10 margin to Sheila Lee and Jo Sanders (Great Hollands).

Merryweather did achieve success in the junior pairs however, teaming up with Cathy Edwards (Maiden Elregh) to edge out Lauren Coles and Coston (both Trentham) by a scoreline of 17-14.

Fowkes was the winner of the over-55 singles, running out the winner 21-15 in a good contest with Kim Eales (Maidenhead Town).

The Unbadged singles was not such a close affair, with a comfortable 21-4 scoreline seeing Pat Emmett (Caversham) beat Jan Mayne (Maidenhead Town).

The secretaries/delegates/treasurers singles was won by another comfortable scoreline, 21-5, as Beverley Wall (Tilehurst) defeated Vione Thornhill (Hagbourne).

The over-55 pairs saw Mary Mackay and Eales (both Maidenhead Town) run out 25-17 winners against Leslie Storer and Lynn Orlando (both Didcot) in a close contest.

The triples was a very close encounter, with the Wokingham trio of Vi Hales-Owen, Marion Evans, and Lillian Holliday running out 12-10 winners against Shrivenham triple Val Carter, Cathy Hope, and Helen Simpson.

The fours saw Karen Cardall, Rita Littlewood, Lee and Sanders (Great Hollands) run out 19-14 winners against Pat Simms, Angela Willett, Mary Littleworth, and Gail Dorey (Great Windsor Park).
