GREAT Hollands BC began their season with a 90-85 defeat at Hurst in a mixed triples match. 

The Bracknell club’s winning rinks were skipped by Ray Furnell – whose team triumphed – 21-15 and Sheila Lee, whose side were successful 20-13. 

The three other rinks were skipped by Rita Littleford (18-26), George Harris (12-19) and Fred Payne (14-17). 

Great Hollands are holding their annual open day on Monday.

Anyone who wants to try their hand at bowls is welcome and the club coaches will be on hand to give advice.

The clubhouse will be open for refreshments and is based at Great Hollands recreation ground, in South Road.

WOKINGHAM opened their season with a 133-79 defeat at Windsor & Eton in a friendly.

Wokingham were successful on just one rink where they won 20 shots to 15.
The winning rink was skipped by David Smith along with Barry Wooley, Diane Pople and Ann Taylor.

Meanwhile, Andrew Cullington made his Wokingham debut.
