The event attracted a large number of visitors to Reading Road keen to try out the sport.
They were given a tour of the clubhouse before a short presentation about the club’s activities.
More than 30 new members signed up for a six-week coaching course after enjoying a taster session led by the club’s leading players.
Meanwhile, Wokingham Acorns got off to a fine start in the defence of their Thames Valley Ladies League Division One title with a 67-45 win against Tilehurst. Wokingham won on two rinks, drawing on the third rink. Marion Evans’ rink won 19-9, while Joy Holmes’ rink won 25-13 and Shirley Dutton’s rink drew 23-23.
In Division 3 of the TVLL, Wokingham Oakapples opened their campaign with a 64-37 win against Suttons.
Oakapples won on two rinks and drew on one. Shirley Higham won 24-9, Janette Kane 24-12 and Diane Pople drew 16-16.
Wokingham men defeated Tilehurst Men 118-77 in a friendly, winning on five rinks and losing on only one. The highlight was a battling comeback by Bob Thompson and his rink who were 8-1 down after two ends but won by three shots.
Wokingham are represented by three teams (A,B and C) in the Kennet League and the Kennet LX League (Over Sixties).
Wokingham A got off to a disappointing start in Division one with a 86-84 defeat to Reading A.
The match was level going into the last two ends, but Reading found the edge to secure a narrow win. Wokingham skips first: Neil Jones 26-22 J.Stradling; Paul Melhuish 26-16 R.Newman; John Scowen 19-20 G.Stacey; Tom Searle 13-28 C.Barrett.
Wokingham B drew their first match 75-75 at Great Hollands. Wokingham were well ahead at the half way mark but Great Hollands fought back.
Colin Cleverley won 26-14, Brian Hales-Owen won 21-15, Pat Clearly lost 23-16 and Stuart Slocombe lost 23-12.
Wokingham C suffered a 78-73 home defeat to Woodley. Ken Martin’s rink were the big winners by 13 shots.
Wokingham A travelled to Prospect Park for their opening game in Division 1 of the Kennet LX League and lost 69-38.
