IT WAS a disappointing weekend for local football clubs on the opening day of the Combined Counties Division One season.

Sandhurst Town, relegated from the Premier Division last season, were beaten 4-0 away at Spelthorne Sports.

Rivals Eversley & California were also on the losing end of a 3-1 scoreline away to Staines Lammas.

In the final round of pre-season friendlies, there were wins for Bracknell Town and Binfield.

The Robins beat Slimbridge 2-1 thanks to goals from Scott Occomore and Ben Knight. Slimbridge scored a consolation penalty five minutes from time.

Binfield came from behind twice to beat Southern League opponents Beaconsfield SYCOB 3-2 at Hill Farm Lane.

Callum Whitty scored the first equaliser but the Moles found themselves 2-1 down at the break.

A curling free-kick from Josh Pearson and a tap in at the back post from Dan Rapley put the Moles in the driving seat in the second half and they went on to record their fifth win from six pre-season games.

Ascot United were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Hampton and Richmond in a testing friendly at the racecourse Ground.

The match featured many familiar faces as well as more new signings, which are set to be announced this week.
