The Lily Hill men pulled off a stunning 22-13 home victory over National Three South West leaders Redingensians Rams on Saturday to climb up to fourth in the table.

It was the perfect farewell for influential club captain Maybury, who is returning to his native New Zealand after seven years with the club.

And Greenslade-Jones knows that winning their next two matches is a must if they are to eat into a 15-point gap which separates Bracknell from second-placed Exmouth.

Bracknell’s next two fixtures are home to Old Redcliffians this Saturday (2.15pm ko) then away to Exmouth a week later, and Greenslade-Jones declared: “We’ve got a tough rearranged match against Old Redcliffians this Saturday then we travel to Exmouth the week after.

“It’s a very big couple of weeks for us in terms of where we finish in the table.

“We could sneak third place, though I think second place will be difficult. Saying that, it all depends on other results.

“If we can win this Saturday then manage another at Exmouth, we will have a much better chance.” Bracknell will go into this Saturday’s fixture bursting with confidence after an outstanding performance against Redingensians last weekend.

Greenslade-Jones’ men beat their Berkshire rivals at Lily Hill Park for the second year running to secure the local bragging rights.

They also put a huge dent in Rams’ title hopes as their lead at the top was slashed from 11 points to five.

Maybury could not have hoped for a better way to end his Bracknell career, and Greenslade-Jones admits his departure will leave a massive void in the changing room.

However, he is confident the squad will adapt to Maybury’s absence in the weeks to come.

“It was a local derby and Nico Maybury’s last game in seven years, so there was a lot of extra incentive out there on the pitch,” said Greenslade-Jones.

“We were also keen to make up for our defeat at Gensians earlier in the season when we conceded 30 penalties plus a penalty try, and picked up two yellow cards.

“It’s a shame for Nick because he has been an outstanding servant to Bracknell Rugby Club. Unfortunately, his working visa has expired so he has gone back to New Zealand.

“It’s very disappointing for us because he is club captain and he’s been one of our most consistent performers over the last seven years.

“But Michael Clarke is coming back from injury having been out since the start of the season and is likely to be a replacement. We also have a few other options, and we’ll see what pans out.”
