The event, which was attended by dignataries and members of both the professional and amateur club, saw a rugby relay which symbolised the moving of the spirit from the old Avenue Training ground over to Hazelwood.
Captain George Skivington was one of 23 players from the clubs involved, and the relay culminated in George and Under 6 player Lars Esse handing the ball over to the Mayor. The Exiles ended their 79-year association with The Avenue in July and said farewell on Saturday, November 29 with a short service with the families of those who had their loved ones’ ashes scattered there. A bench in the Hazelwood Memorial Garden commemorating those that had their ashes scattered at The Avenue - donated by the London Irish Supporters Club - was also unveiled.
