BRACKNELL RFC suffered a third consecutive away defeat as they were beaten 33-17 at Brixham in their National Three South West clash on Saturday.

The hosts opened the scoring following a turnover at the scrum, centre Tom McLean dotting down after nine minutes before Ben Lovell converted.

Bracknell responded with a breakaway try for Ally Walton on 25 minutes, and then took the lead following a fumble at a five-metre line-out, Chris Brember touching down.

The half saw no further scores although Kim Plant received a yellow card for tackling a decoy runner without the ball.

The home side regained the lead five minutes into the second period when fly half Martin Worthington stepped inside and sprinted 40 metres for a converted try. McLean scored his second try of the day to extend his side’s lead, with Lovell’s conversion making it 21-10.

With Brixham prop Russ Morris in the sin bin, Liam Hemming was able to take advantage to score a try under the posts, and with Lewis Dennett converting, Bracknell trailed by just four points.

Corey Moore followed Morris into the bin, but despite their two-man advantage, Bracknell were unable to make it count on the scoreboard.

Brixham extended their lead – and secured their bonus point – with McLean collecting a Lovell grubber kick before crossing the whitewash for his hat-trick.

And there was just enough time on the clock for a Russ Morris interception try which was unconverted.

Bracknell return to Lily Hill Park this coming Saturday, with Lydney the visitors (3pm).
