CROWTHORNE RFC continued their excellent BB&O Premier season with a comprehensive 34-17 victory at Slough.

The fifth-placed visitors made the perfect start when Slough knocked on a line-out on their own five-metre line, and after a solid scrum Crowthorne fly-half Alex Stewart crashed over.

Josh Roberts added the conversion, but after the game became somewhat scrappy, the hosts levelled matters when wing Jack Newton took advantage of an overlap to go over.

However, Crows hit back and added two further converted scores before the break, man-of-them-match Karl Crosbie and skipper Sam Short the men to dot down. Roberts fine work from the tee saw him also add a penalty and meant the visitors led 24-7 at the break.

Slough fought back immediately after the interval and finally broke down the Crows defence following a series of phases, with Robbie Morrison earning five points for his side.

The visitors' impressive pack regained control for Crowthorne as they won three consecutive scrum penalties five metres from the Slough try line, the referee eventually awarding a penalty try.

Crows were then reduced to 14 men when scrum half James Jarvis was adjudged to have tackled a Slough player without the ball, and the hosts ramped up the pressure before Cheyne Hewison crossed in the corner.

However, any hopes the hosts had of snatching a remarkable comeback victory were ended when Crows put together a fabulous team move which was ended by wing James Huckle.

The final few minutes proved error-filled but Crows did not look like conceding and held on for an excellent victory.

Crowthorne will hope to maintain their fine run when they host fourth-placed Tadley at the New Nest on Saturday (2.15pm).

CROWTHORNE Ladies beat Windsor 8-5 on Sunday.
